Whitewater Rafting Levels

What's the difference?

Class I: Easy

Class l rapids are the easiest. They feature fast moving water with small waves, and are generally free from obstructions

Class II: Novice

A step up from Class l, but with a little more manoeuvring required to handle larger waves and rocks.

Class III: Intermediate

Scouting is advised, especially for inexperienced rafters. These rapids generally require complex maneuvers to avoid being swamped by larger, irregular waves.

Class IV: Advanced

Intense and powerful waves require precise maneuvering and boat handling skills to navigate. These waves are generally predictable, but there often dangerous hazards that must be pre-emptively avoided.

Class V: Expert

Violent, long rapids with many dangerous hazards for the rafter to avoid. As the name implies, these rapids are for experts only as they are risky.
