Stoked for the Slopes? Marmot Basin to the Rescue!

As we all eagerly anticipate the winter wonderland that Jasper will soon become, we’ve started planning our time on the slopes!

Just 20 minutes outside of town sits Marmot Basin: the ski and snowboard mountain with Canada’s highest base elevation. With 7 lifts up the 3,000ft elevation and 86 runs down the 1,677 acres of terrain, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone.

HOW DIFFICULT ARE THE RUNS?

Your experience depends on how difficult you choose to go! The runs at Marmot Basin are almost equally distributed, with 30% novice, 30% intermediate, 20% advanced and 20% expert runs. No matter the level, skiers and snowboarders are able to glide and swish through a variety of terrain to improve skills and increase experience.

AVERAGE CONDITIONS AND HOURS?

With average annual snowfalls in Jasper sitting around 160 inches of fresh Alberta powder, Marmot is the definition of a skier’s paradise. The resort facilities are open from 8:00AM to 5:00PM daily while the lifts run from 9:00AM to 4:00PM, which leaves loads of time and daylight hours to explore the slopes.

WHERE CAN I BUY PASSES?

Stop by the ticket office at the hill or plan ahead and check out the sales centre at 611 Patricia St. in Jasper. There are plenty of single and multi-day ski passes available for purchase, including the brand new Marmot Escape Card

PARKING?

Parking at the hill is free, but if you feel like leaving the car at home-base, you can take advantage of one of the shuttles to bring you from town straight to Marmot. There’s no need to trudge through the parking lot carrying all your gear!

WHAT ARE THE DINING OPTIONS?

As you work up an appetite on the slopes, consider stopping at one (or all if you’re hungry) of the resort chalets. With mid-mountain dining like the Paradise and Eagle Chalets, there’s a variety of food and drink options to help keep you warm and fueled up for the day as you conquer the cold! The Caribou Lounge can be found at the base of the ski area, and offers both a cafeteria and a dining lounge, making it the ideal location for some après-ski relaxation.

WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?

Are your little ones a bit too young for skiing? You could bring your in-laws with you on vacation to babysit, or you could drop your little guys and gals at the Little Rascals Nursery! Licensed and certified staff are there to keep your little ones safe. With a guarantee of no more than 6 kids per staff, they’ll be in great hands while you enjoy your mountainous adventures.

If your little tike is gearing up to love the mountains like mom and dad, try out the Tiny Tracks Ski Program! Check your children into the Little Rascals Nursery at the start of the day and Marmot will take care of the rest! This package includes (2) 50-minute ski (only) lessons, rental equipment, full day lift ticket, lunch and supervised nursery care. This ski program is a perfect combination of childcare and on-hill instruction.
