Seeking that Jasper java jolt

Jasper explorers aren’t always looking for an adrenaline rush. Sometimes it’s a rush of a different kind that they set out to experience, like that coveted morning caffeine buzz to help kick off the day.

As the base of adventure, Jasper is equipped with its fair share of coffee shops and cafes where you can stop in and fuel up. If you find yourself in need of a cup of (Jasper) Joe to get you going off the beaten path, look no further than these hot spots to see what they’ve got brewing:

Coco’s Cafe

Hours 6 am – 8 pm (roughly)

This cozy local gem is located on Patricia Street. Coco’s specializes in vegetarian, vegan, and celiac friendly fare, but “with several meaty options for the carnivorous folk,” as mentioned on their website. Several caffeinated beverages are available, ranging from brewed coffee to espresso based drinks, chai lattes and tea. The cafe also features rotating local art work.

Coco’s is a great base to start out your day in the mountains. As an added bonus, you can catch the shuttle bus up to the Jasper SkyTram, right across the street at the Jasper Adventure Centre.

Bear’s Paw Bakery/The Other Paw

Hours 6 am – 6 pm/7 am – 6 pm

The place is always buzzing with people lining up to grab their Jasper coffee brew and an accompanying pastry. Bear’s Paw is the very well known momma bear of the Jasper coffee shop and cafe scene – and because of that, they’ve expanded and opened another location further west on Connaught Drive. Why not buy a fresh loaf of bread and make some sandwiches to enjoy while out exploring at Maligne Canyon?

Snowdome Coffee Bar

Hours 7:45 am - 8 pm

Snowdome really embraces the Jasper lifestyle.  As one local put it, “I climb mountains on this coffee”. With an amazing coffee culture and staff that provide a “top of the world experience”, this is a must-visit on any caffeine hop. Plenty of delicious baked goods are made fresh each day in house, which is surprising for the quirky little location of the coffee shop – a downstairs Laundromat. So go climb that mountain, get dirty, and then head on over to do some laundry and grab a re-fueling treat and java.

Wicked Cup

Hours 7 am – 7 pm

Having just opened their doors this past May, Wicked Cup has already made a mark within the Jasper coffee scene. Located on the far west side of Connaught Drive within the same building as the Maligne Lodge makes it an easy walk down from your hotel room to get that morning boost to fuel the day. Wicked Cup boasts a beautiful patio on which to enjoy a delicious item from the food menu, along with your tasty cup of organic coffee or tea. The cafe stands alongside a retail store where you can find many handcrafted items from around the world, as well as coffee and tea for purchase.

Cafe Mondo

Flexible hours

Cafe by day, Mexican restaurant by night - a unique combination, to be sure. Cafe Mondo has a wide selection of coffee and espresso based drinks, which are available on order to go or to enjoy in house along with breakfast or a lunchtime sandwich. A note on the door indicates that you are entering a no wi-fi zone, leaving explorers to interact and discuss their upcoming day’s activities.  While you’re there, the Maligne Adventures booking office is only steps away, so you can book your rafting trip down Fraser River and keep that caffeine buzz going.
