1 Wildlife viewing

For many visitors, spotting wildlife is one of the highlights of a June trip to Jasper. The valleys are green and animals line the highways, focused on eating as much as possible through the brief mountain summer. It's common to see elk, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, deer, bears, and even the occasional moose along roadsides, meadows, and river valleys. Early mornings and evenings are often the best times for wildlife viewing, when animals are most active.

Get more tips in this Summer Wildlife Viewing Guide such as where to look, how to view animals safely, and guided tour options.

If you're an animal lover looking for a different kind of wildlife experience, horseback riding offers a unique way to experience the scenic and varied landscape near Pyramid Lake and the Cottonwood Slough.

2 Whitewater Rafting

June is one of the most exciting times to experience whitewater rafting in Jasper. Thanks to the annual spring melt, rivers are running higher and faster, creating more thrilling rapids and unforgettable fun on the water. Even so,local outfitters offer a range of guided trips that can either amp up or tone down the waves.

If you'd prefer a more relaxed way to get out on the water, consider a guided canoe tour with Wild Current Outfitters. Located on the iconic Pyramid Lake, they offer a peaceful alternative focused on the area's natural and cultural history (plus beach breaks with homemade snacks).

3 Sightseeing

Before the busiest weeks of summer arrive, June is a great time to see Jasper's famous sights. With longer days, comfortable temperatures, and fewer visitors than July and August, it's an ideal time to take in the park's stunning landscapes at a more relaxed pace.

Maligne Lake Cruise

For a classic Jasper experience, board the Maligne Lake Cruise and journey across the turquoise waters of the longest lake in the Canadian Rockies to world-famous Spirit Island. Surrounded by towering peaks and pristine wilderness, it's one of the most photographed and recognizable views in the Canadian Rockies.

Jasper SkyTram

For a different perspective, ride the Jasper SkyTram, which carries visitors high above the valley to the slopes of Whistlers Mountain. From the upper station, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of Jasper National Park, six mountain ranges, glacial lakes, and the townsite far below.
