Venture Beyond Summer and Experience Winter Wonderland during Jasper in January
Jasper, Canada (January 9, 2017) –
Jasper in January, coming into its 28th year, is a festival celebrating those brave adventurers who are willing to venture beyond the summer heat and enjoy winter to its fullest!
While many flee for warmer climates in winter, the true explorer will rush in to welcome the snow and ice with open arms and excitement. Running from January 12-29, 2017 enjoy adventures in Jasper like skiing at the iconic Marmot Basin, snowshoeing, dogsledding, sleigh rides and cross country skiing with the beautiful Rocky Mountain backdrop and skating on pristine glacially fed lakes at three core weekends with themes like Adventures, Appetites, and Arts.
For the trailblazers who look to take on winter face to face, join up with likeminded adrenaline junkies from January 12-14 as the first annual Jasper Fat Bike Race & Summit powered by Frosty’s Fat Bike Race Series – the first event of its kind in Canada! With varying difficulties ranging from beginner to pro there’s a race for everyone! Choose from Frosty’s Cross Country (XC) Race, Frosty’s Downhill Fat Bike Race, or Frosty’s Fat Bike Endurance Race or get really adventurous and try all three. Then join Canadian Olympic Champion Jennifer Heil on the slopes for a family-friendly ski clinics as she shares tips and tricks for skiing before sitting down and chatting with participants over lunch. To make sure everyone had an opportunity to test out these new tips and tricks right away, so they’re offering 25% off adult lift tickets from January 14-29.
For those equally happy racing to the snack stand as the bike stand, there’s Jasper in January Appetites festivities, with Wine in Winter, Hopscotch and Wines, Jasper Brewing Co.’s Brewery Tour, Food-a-palooza, a full three course dinner with Olympic Medalist Jenn Heil at the Evil Wine Downer and many more. Or walk away with important information after participating in Evil Dave’s Grill’s Mixology 101 course where their devilishly delicious cocktail recipes will be shared! After working up an appetite in the crisp January air, hang up your snowshoes, skis, bikes, and crampons and make your way to downtown Jasper for some local culinary treats. With an abundance of food and drink, it’s sure to be a delectable time.
Being surrounded by towering mountains and glistening frozen lakes tends to bring out both the adventurer and the artist. The final weekend of Jasper in January highlights both. Check out some live music or enjoy some face time with a local artist at the Luuk Wijk Photography Artist Reception. Get active and register your 4 on 4 team for the Men’s Pond Hockey Tournament at Mildred Lake for some fast paced fun or slow things down and rejuvenate at the Lolë Wellness Weekend. Then enjoy the grand finale evening on Patricia Street for the ATCO Street Party featuring a full outdoor concert by Shred Kelly! Jam out with this epic Alberta band for a full concert length set and enjoy delicious treats before Jasper in January ends with a bang. Fireworks are bright and exciting everywhere, but there’s something a little extra special about seeing these aerial explosions with a backdrop of the billions of stars twinkling in one of the largest dark sky preserves in the world!
