Cycle the Road of the Real Rockies in 2nd Annual Endurance Race

CYCLE THE ROADS OF THE REAL ROCKIES IN 2nd ANNUAL ENDURANCE RACE

Venture Beyond in the GranFondo Jasper this Spring

Jasper, Alberta (June 1, 2016)  -

On June 11th, cyclists of all abilities will take over the pavement as they pedal themselves in a race to the finish line.

The GranFondo Jasper is a cycling event meant to bring every adventure (and fitness) level to the roads of the real Rockies, with four different routes to choose from. The event is only the second Gran Fondo in North America to be held completely within a national park system, offering racers the opportunity to venture beyond in an awe-inspiring atmosphere.

Feel like channeling your inner Bauke Mollema, winner of the 2015 Tour of Alberta? The most challenging route, the Forte Fondo, will see racers covering a total of 190 km with an elevation gain of 2,339 metres as they travel down the Icefields Parkway before making their way up Marmot Basin road to the base of the ski area – just as the racers of the Tour did back in September.

If you’d like to scale it back just a litt1e, choose from a 165, 100, or 65 km route instead. The event, put together by Multisportscanada, is intended for competitors of all ages.

“We are excited to be returning to Jasper for the 2nd annual GranFondo. With a growth of 20% in registrations, we look forward to showcasing the Rocky Mountains to cyclists of all abilities,” Trevor Soll of Multisportscanada says.

Last year’s winner of the GranFondo Jasper (165 km), Matt Décor, clocked in with a finish time of 5 hours, 4 minutes, and 44 seconds.

But you don’t have to win the Gran Fondo to have an epic and memorable experience! Riders, ranging from professional to recreational cyclists are encouraged to participate in this event simply for a sense of personal achievement, the scenic Rocky Mountain views and the camaraderie of fellow racers. Not ready to ride? Join the fun as an enthusiastic spectator on the sidelines – cheerleading is encouraged!

Registration for the event, capped at 400 participants, will close on June 9th at 8 PM mountain time. Registration includes an official technical t-shirt, chip timing, full service stop, a custom water bottle, mechanical and medical support, and a finisher’s medal!

In addition, GranFondo Jasper will donate $10 from every entry to support the Jasper Community Team, a unique network of agencies, organizations and individuals collaborating to improve the quality of life in the community of Jasper.
