Conquer Canada's Base of Adventure in First-Ever Jasper Half-Marathon

Racing Through the Real Rockies

Jasper, Alberta (January 26, 2016) –

Many of us make resolutions in January to eat healthier or improve our physical fitness, and let’s face it, sometimes it’s tough to stay motivated and stick to our goals!

But what if that end goal meant racing through the town of Jasper, Canada where the snow-covered mountain peaks are your distraction, the sound of the gushing Athabasca River is your pump-up jam, and the fresh forest air is your supply of oxygen.

Whether you want to crush a personal goal, get active with the family, or you’re seeking out an event to kick-start the race season, the first ever Jasper Canadian Rockies Half Marathon Festival taking place Saturday, April 16, 2016 is one not to be missed.

“We’re thrilled to bring an incredible event to Jasper National Park. It’s been very exciting to see the participant numbers continue to grow each day!” said Myriam Bolduc, Specialist, Product Development of Tourism Jasper.

Built upon the foundation of an epic mountain community and in partnership with Multisportscanada, this event will cater to all abilities and ages. Multisport Canada, hosts of the 2014 GrandFondo Jasper and Jasper Triathlon, develops and manages mass participation sporting events across western Canada. With over 22 events and more than 8,000 competitors each year, they are one of Canada’s most experienced event management specialists. As the first ever half-marathon to be held in Jasper, this is a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the park!

“We are extremely excited to work with the Municipality, Tourism Jasper, Parks Canada and the Fairmont to host this new Half Marathon in Jasper,” said Trevor Soll, founder of Multisportscanada and event director of the half marathon. “It will be an amazing experience for all types of athletes!  This event weekend will be perfect for the entire family!”

With exactly two months and 21 days left until racers from far and wide will line up at the start line, there’s still time to begin training. Participants will wind their way along Old Fort Road, across the Athabasca River, around Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and along the shores of beautiful lakes to complete the 21.1 kilometres. We know you can do it, but if that still sounds a bit daunting there are other options to participate.

Maybe a five or ten-kilometre race is more your style! Not only can you feel good about competing in and finishing a race in the real Canadian Rockies, but $10 from each entry into the 5k, 10k, and 21.1k events will go towards supporting the Ronald McDonald House of Northern Alberta.

Race entries will also include a finisher medal, chip timer, award medals for the top three in each ten year age group, delicious pre and post race snacks, as well as eligibility to win great draw prizes! Tickets to the post race meal and celebrations are available for purchase when you register online or during race package pickup.

We welcome you to prepare yourself for an epic spring race in the mountains of Jasper National Park!
