The Jasper Canadian Rockies Half Marathon has scenic views

This might feel like a given for a race located in Jasper National Park. But it's worth confirming that despite its paved and relatively flat course, the Jasper Canadian Rockies Half Marathon passes some of the best scenery around while still being accessible to cheer squads.

Some highlights included on the half marathon course (other distances pass some but not all of the following):

  • Mountains: At multiple points around the course you're treated to nicely framed views of the mountain ranges surrounding Jasper. Pyramid Mountain, Mount Edith Cavell and the Colin Mountain Range are particularly prominent.
  • Athabasca River: this historic waterway flows from the Columbia Icefield, eventually feeding into the Arctic Ocean. Come back to Jasper in May to join a raft tour and see the course you ran from a different perspective!
  • Quaint log cabins: Jasper is famous for its quintessentially Canadian cabins. All race distances pass by Alpine Village where you can peep stunning examples of Rocky Mountain architecture.
  • Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge: This luxurious mountain resort is worth exploring before or after your race. The half marathon passes its world famous golf course, designed by Canada's preeminent golf course architect Stanley Thompson.
  • Lakes
    • Lac Beauvert: With a name that translates literally to "Beautiful Green Lake," Lac Beauvert shimmers an otherworldly emerald on sunny days.
    • Mildred Lake: Return in winter to skate on the groomed oval or play some shinny with hot chocolate after (rentals available at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge)
    • Lake Annette: As one of the warmest lakes in the national park, this is a popular swimming spot in the summer. Its sandy beach is complemented by picnic tables, washrooms and a playground.
    • Lake Edith: The course follows a path around this clean and wildlife-friendly lake.
  • Wildlife: Spring is a great time for wildlife viewing in the national park. On the course, watch for mountain goats or bighorn sheep at Old Fort Point, bears or elk near Alpine Village, deer at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and loons or other ducks at Lake Edith.
  • Fire-affected regrowth: Run through areas that were affected by the 2024 wildfire and witness the regrowth cycle in action!

Spring in Jasper has perfect temperatures for running

By late April, daytime highs are usually around 10°C, which is coincidentally the perfect temperature for racing (the race start is scheduled to hit those warmest times of day). Your body generates a lot of heat at high effort levels, and studies show that the cool-but-not-too-cool range of ~8°C to 12°C helps prevent overheating so you can maintain your goal pace for longer with less strain.

Race finishers get a keepsake-worthy medal and T-shirt

Sure, there's the intrinsic satisfaction of pushing to your limit and crossing the finish line proud. But it's also ok if you're a bit of magpie motivated by shiny things. With high quality T-shirts included in the registration fee and a beautiful finisher's medal, this race delivers a healthy dose of extrinsic satisfaction too. There's also awards for top 3 in each 10-year age group is each of the three main race distances, and draw prizes .

A portion of entry fees are donated to charity

Run happy knowing that you're contributing to a good cause. Proceeds from this race will go to support the entirely worthy Jasper Healthcare Foundation! A portion of each entry will go toward the purchase of an advanced automated CPR device—a crucial piece of medical equipment in a place where hospital transport times can be long and staffing limited Additional donations can be made during online registration.

The race has raised over $138,000 in support of Jasper healthcare since the event’s inception.

Smooth logistics: the Jasper Canadian Rockies Half Marathon is well-organized

Going into its tenth year, this race is a well-oiled machine. Aid (fluid) stations will keep you going, professional traffic control means no red lights or traffic slowing your pace, and chip timing dials in the accuracy. There's even baggage check available during the race.

Refuel fast and easy with tasty post-race snacks

Are you someone who eats to run or runs to eat? Either way, we all know that fueling is super important to happy, healthy running. Luckily, after crossing the finish line you'll be able to refuel with delicious post-race snacks. And after that? Choose from any number of Jasper's drool-worthy restaurants for a celebratory meal.

Or pick an event at the Taste of Spring festival!

SEE YOU ON THE START LINE!
