Nothing says summer like relaxing on a patio. And in Jasper it’s extra special, with countless opportunities for mountain views, sampling local-made brews and spotting born-and-bred Jasperites. Here’s a few of our favourite spots to dine al fresco.
1. The Pines Restaurant, at Pyramid Lake Resort
The views of Pyramid Lake, with Pyramid Mountain framed perfectly behind it, are famous for a reason. This fine dining spot has an elevated patio that’s perfect for spotting tranquil canoes floating in the distance, and a Canadian-inspired menu that features a unique selection of fish, meats, and fresh local produce.
2. Jasper Pizza Place
This casual dining eatery actually has two patios. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the street-level front patio, while the newly renovated rooftop patio has unobstructed views of the mountains, plus its own bar. A protective awning and seven space heaters will keep you and the crew comfortable. If the name didn’t give you a hint, pizzas are the star here (made in both wood burning and traditional ovens, with gluten free options) but the menu has tons of other options.
3. Coco’s Café
The coffee, allergy-friendly menu and artisanal breads made daily from scratch have helped to make this colourful spot a local favourite. Its newly expanded patio on Patricia Street is perfect for people watching in Jasper's downtown core.
4. Jasper Brewing Co.
Sample local brews made with real local glacier water at the first brewery to open in a national park. The upscale pub fare pairs nicely with views of Signal Mountain in the distance, and outdoor heaters and patio awning make this an attractive choice when the weather is sub-optimal.
5. Tekarra Restaurant
Enjoy a cocktail on the fully-licensed ridge that overlooks the Athabasca River and surrounding mountains. Adirondack chairs provide a comfortable and classic place to recline and enjoy your beverage and/or charcuterie board. If you’re looking for a full meal, best to sit at one of the tables on the patio right outside the restaurant.
6. Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen
Occasional live music, proximity to Maligne Canyon, outdoor fireplaces and a drool-worthy smokehouse-inspired menu are part of what make this stylish restaurant a must-visit.
7. Stone Peak Restaurant, at Overlander Mountain Lodge
Overlooking Jasper's eastern mountain ranges, this large and beautiful patio comes with a wine list and farm-to-table menu that would make most city restaurants jealous. Voted Alberta’s Best Patio in Venture Magazine
8. Orso Trattoria, at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
Boasting Northern Italian cuisine with better views, this restaurant serves dinners and Sunday brunch. Their patio overlooks Lac Beauvert, and is located just beneath the Emerald Lounge
9. Emerald Lounge, at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge
Unwind with a light meal and tasty beverage on one of Jasper’s best patios. This expansive lounge is located in the Fairmont’s main lodge and offers a selection of breakfast items, light fare, shareables, creative tapas and hand-crafted cocktails throughout the day. The elevated patio overlooks the outdoor pool and stunning Lac Beauvert and Whistlers Mountain beyond.
10. First Cup, at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club
The First Cup at the Golf Clubhouse offers creative sandwiches, coffee and tea, cold beverages and snacks to satisfy your appetite before (or after) enjoying the famous Stanley Thompson designed golf course. The charming patio is located at the 1st tee.
11. Skyline Lounge, at Lobstick Lodge
This hidden gem is available for private functions. It features a stone fireplace, outdoor patio and gorgeous mountain views.
12. The Inn Grill, at The Jasper Inn & Suites
This restaurant serves a variety of Canadian and International cuisine alongside a great selection of craft beers, fine wines, ciders and cocktails. During the summer months, enjoy dinner amidst the flowers and trees on the covered, heated garden terrace.
13. HI Jasper
This newly built budget-friendly accommodation often surprises people with its beautifully designed communal areas for guests. Located walking distance from the train station and downtown Jasper, the building includes a public café and BBQ patio.
14. Glacier View Lodge
The pictures of this luxurious lounge area, which overlooks the Athabasca Glacier, speak for themselves. Downstairs, the patio outside the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre offers truly unparalleled views of one of the world’s most amazing geological wonders.
15. Caribou Chalet, at Marmot Basin
On sunny winter days, there are few places to eat, drink and soak in some views than the patios at the upper and lower chalets at Marmot Basin Ski Resort. And after a few hours of ripping pow non-stop (thanks to virtually non-existent lift lines) you’ll be glad to take a seat
16. Wicked Cup
Sip great coffee with a view of Whistlers Mountain on this large and pleasant patio on the western side of Jasper. Choose between a fireside bench or covered bistro tables.
17. Downstream Restaurant & Lounge
Usually, the amazing food and cocktails available at this restaurant is served exclusively in their atmospheric underground dining area. However, due to expanded patio areas to allow for social distancing, Downstream’s deliciousness can now be enjoyed on Jasper’s main drive.
