Nothing says summer like relaxing on a patio. And in Jasper it’s extra special, with countless opportunities for mountain views, sampling local-made brews and spotting born-and-bred Jasperites. Here’s a few of our favourite spots to dine al fresco.

1. The Pines Restaurant, at Pyramid Lake Resort

The views of Pyramid Lake, with Pyramid Mountain framed perfectly behind it, are famous for a reason. This fine dining spot has an elevated patio that’s perfect for spotting tranquil canoes floating in the distance, and a Canadian-inspired menu that features a unique selection of fish, meats, and fresh local produce.

2. Jasper Pizza Place

This casual dining eatery actually has two patios. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on the street-level front patio, while the newly renovated rooftop patio has unobstructed views of the mountains, plus its own bar. A protective awning and seven space heaters will keep you and the crew comfortable. If the name didn’t give you a hint, pizzas are the star here (made in both wood burning and traditional ovens, with gluten free options) but the menu has tons of other options.

3. Coco’s Café

The coffee, allergy-friendly menu and artisanal breads made daily from scratch have helped to make this colourful spot a local favourite. Its newly expanded patio on Patricia Street is perfect for people watching in Jasper's downtown core.

4. Jasper Brewing Co.

Sample local brews made with real local glacier water at the first brewery to open in a national park. The upscale pub fare pairs nicely with views of Signal Mountain in the distance, and outdoor heaters and patio awning make this an attractive choice when the weather is sub-optimal.

5. Tekarra Restaurant

Enjoy a cocktail on the fully-licensed ridge that overlooks the Athabasca River and surrounding mountains. Adirondack chairs provide a comfortable and classic place to recline and enjoy your beverage and/or charcuterie board. If you’re looking for a full meal, best to sit at one of the tables on the patio right outside the restaurant.

6. Maligne Canyon Wilderness Kitchen

Occasional live music, proximity to Maligne Canyon, outdoor fireplaces and a drool-worthy smokehouse-inspired menu are part of what make this stylish restaurant a must-visit.

On sunny winter days, there are few places to eat, drink and soak in some views than the patios at the upper and lower chalets at Marmot Basin Ski Resort. And after a few hours of ripping pow non-stop (thanks to virtually non-existent lift lines) you’ll be glad to take a seat
