Jasper’s Hottest Winter Festival is back for 2015!

Jasper in January Festival invites all to ring in the New Year – Rocky Mountain style

Jasper, AB (January 5, 2015) – A sure-fire way to kick off the New Year, the Jasper in January Festival is just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited for this year’s festivities. From January 16 – February 1, Jasper in January invites locals and visitors alike to bundle up and embrace winter in true Rocky Mountain style. Festival-goers can experience a range of events and activities including winter sports, live music, wine tastings, food contests, expert workshops, dog-sledding, fireworks, a winter ice bar and more.

Winter lovers can revel in signature festival favourites during the first weekend, such as Arts on Ice at the Sawridge Inn, which will feature a locally-curated art exhibit, martini bar and delicious treats and Winterstruck, a family-friendly event on January 17th at Pyramid Lake featuring ice skating, snowshoeing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, dog-sledding, kids programs and bannock-making. The second weekend is just as eventful with the ATCO Street Party, where Jasper’s downtown core turns into a celebratory display of street performers, live music, flashlight art, Walk of Lights, and an incredible firework show to cap it all off.

Food and drink play a major part during Jasper in January, as demonstrated by the many gastronomic events embraced by locals and visitors alike. Wine in Winter is a food and wine event that promotes everyone coming together to sample a vast array of international wines and scrumptious snacks. The Hopscotch and Wines evening is another yearly favourite, with guests tasting some of the world's finest artisan beers, spirits, and wines from over 25 different vendors, all matched with exquisite appetizers. The culinary excitement continues with Foodapalooza, a restaurant-hopping event in downtown Jasper featuring unique small plates and beverage pairings. New this year is Dine Around Jasper, a long table progressive three course dinner at some of the best restaurants in town – tickets for this event are limited. Not to be forgotten is the much-loved Chili Cook Off put on by Mountain Park Lodges where teams compete in costume for the winning recipe – truly one of Jasper’s greatest parties!

Another fun part of Jasper in January is the thriving music scene. There will be a range of live acts to enjoy throughout the festival, from rock and hip-hop to cover bands and open mics. Attendees can join in on some winter fun at The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge golf course for an outdoor winter concert featuring Juno nominated band The Odds. Other musicians in town during the festival include Sarah Smith, Blades of Steel, Coal Creek Boys, Mourning Wood, and Tupelo Honey. Those looking for even more fun can take part in a Blues Dance workshop featuring blues and fusion dancers from Jasper and Edmonton, or attend a Robbie Burns celebration with pipes, toasts, haggis and entertainment. Festival-goers will also find live music at Marmot Basin as they ski or snowboard around the mountain.

Beyond the festival’s official events, adventure-seekers can take the opportunity to explore Jasper’s stunning winter playground with activities like downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, dogsledding, ice skating, ice climbing, tobogganing, fat-biking, and snowshoeing just to name a few. Jasper offers plenty of ways to get warm after a day of action-packed activity, whether it’s in one of our recently renovated hotels, unique shops, or indulgent restaurants.

For winter enthusiasts looking to embrace the best of the season, Jasper in January is an ideal occasion for fun-seekers of all ages. Be sure to visit JinJ.ca to check for updates and view our calendar of events, and don’t forget to look for the #MyJasper hashtag.
