Weekend Cocktails to Ring in the Spring

Cocktail lovers rejoice! It’s time to replace those boozy hot chocolates and Irish coffees with something a little bit more refreshing and delicious for spring. That’s right, it’s cocktail season here in Jasper and we’ve got the lowdown on some of the best ice cold drinks to accompany you after a long day of exploring out in the springtime sun.

Springtime usually heralds in the season of gin and vodka. Combining fresh, muddled fruits, like raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, lemons, and limes will make your cocktails pop.

Mike Day, owner of Evil Dave’s Grill in Jasper, uses soda water to give effervescence to his cocktails while letting the fruit flavours come through. For sweeter drinks, he adds either simple syrup or a splash of citrus soda. To add an additional savory dimension, he infuses his spirits with fresh basil or mint. After straining the leaves from the spirits, he builds his cocktails with fruit and tops them with soda.
