Take a Break in Jasper this Reading Week

Daydreaming in class about snow-capped peaks? Take a much needed break this reading week in Canada’s Base of Adventure!

The end of February is near which means students from across Canada will be flocking from the confines of their university libraries for some well-deserved vacation time. Though reading week is intended for catching up on unfinished readings, we insist that all of you hard working students trade in your laptop for a mountaintop.

We know that going on vacation on a student budget is tough, so here are some things you can do during reading week (besides reading) this year in Jasper National Park:

Taking a walk in the fresh air can do wonders for mental clarity, but you know what works even better? Skiing! Marmot Basin ski resort offers discounted student lift tickets for those looking to shred the slopes during reading week.

Students are in luck this year! In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, Parks Canada is offering everyone free access to all Canadian National Parks with the 2017 Discovery Pass. Order one online here

Looking to be entertained on a budget? February’s a great month to catch a show at the Jasper Legion! Watch locals take the stage during a free Friday jam night or come down to one of their scheduled live shows!

If you want to get rid of some of that stress induced muscle tension, join in on a free community yoga class at Jasper Wellness or book yourself in for a massage at Mountain Wellness Day Spa. These tranquil spaces will leave you feeling relieved and rejuvenated after a long day of exploring the park.

Don’t know where to stay? The Jasper Downtown Hostel is a great option for students looking to save. They have plenty of options for budget conscious travelers, including private rooms with en-suite bathrooms for up to 4 people and dorm rooms with shared facilities. Also, its central location makes it easy for guests to access all of Jasper’s amenities within minutes!  For other accommodation options in Jasper, please see Where to Stay

Considering that winter is still in full swing, taking advantage of all the amazing winter activities offered in the park is a must. Go snowshoeing at Marmot Meadows, skating at Pyramid Lake Resort or rent some cross country skis at Pure Outdoors and head out on one of Jasper’s many trails. The opportunities for adventure (and great photos) are endless!

Now get your nose out of that textbook and start planning an epic escape to Jasper!
