Mountain Park Lodges' 28th Annual Chili Cook Off

The Jasper Activity Centre was packed as 18 teams competed to make the best chili at Mountain Park Lodges 28th Annual Chili Cook-Off for the 2016 Jasper in Jasper Appetites Weekend. No ingredients were allowed to be pre-cooked or chopped prior to the start, and to make the competition even more challenging, no beans were allowed in the recipes this year. Regardless of the no-bean rule, every booth managed to whip up a tasty and creative batch of chili. Along with serving chili to guests, competitors entertained spectators with crazy costumes and themed booths.

Chili Cook Off 2016“What a party. Jasper's Mountain Park Lodge's Chili Cook-off is a don't-miss event. Tons of friendly volunteers create a relaxed vibe, there is all the chili you could want, jugs of beer, timeless rock to dance to. That they've been doing it for 28 years speaks to an amazing community spirit. Good times!”

Chili Cook Off 2016

“The Chili Cook off turned out to be an outstanding event again this year! So much work, talent and creativity go into this - it’s rewarding for us to see every team’s commitment towards putting out a great show year after year, and it’s just great fun. Congratulations to all of the winners. Looking forward to next year’s event!”

And the winners are...

Best Chili

Best Chili

The competition was stiff and the judges were tough when it came to the title of "best chili". Seriously, they don't mess around. In first place was Jasper Pizza Place, second was Sundog Tours, and The Palisades, Parks Canada.

Best Booth

We saw it all this year, from a 6 foot paper mache tiki, a life size log cabin, an old pirate's ship and a handmade elk that takes two people to walk it around the room, it seemed as though everyone was in it to win it. Taking first place for best booth was Coco's Cafe for their Tiki Bar, second was Sawridge with a reference to a special chili episode of the Simpsons, and third was a life like Roadkill cafe from Tourism Jasper.

Thank you to everyone who came out to see all the hard work that went in to making the 28th year of the Chili Cook Off the best one yet. Keep an eye on jasperinjanuary.travel for updates on the next event.
