Jasper Honours 50 Years of Star Trek

To celebrate 50 years of Star Trek, Jasper - Canada’s base of adventure - is offering fans a special discounted rate to see George Takei at this year’s Jasper Dark Sky Festival Presented by Rocky Mountaineer.

As one of the most popular science fiction franchises in history, Star Trek has been inspiring audiences around the world to look up for decades. The series is often touted as having been light years ahead of its time with regards to technology and social convention, a mantle Takei has since gone on to emulate long past his time on the show. Best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek, Takei is also recognized world-wide as a leader in social justice, LGBTQ rights and marriage equality.

In celebration of Star Trek’s 50th anniversary, which debuted on September 8th, 1966, fans will be able to use the promo code “STAR50” to receive a 10% discount to see George Takei as part of the Star Package. Included in this exclusive package is admission to SPACEtalks: an engaging panel featuring some of North America’s brightest astronomy and media professionals.

Coming into its 6th year, the Dark Sky Festival was originally created to celebrate the Dark Sky Preserve designation that Jasper received in 2011 by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Since that time, the festival has grown into a celebration throughout the entire month of October, highlighting two featured weekends packed with events, speakers and activities that promote science, space and conservation.

Running October 14th - 23rd, this year’s Dark Sky Festival will feature George Takei’s only engagement in Alberta for the rest of 2016 on the night of Friday October 21st.
