Gear Up for the 2017 Jasper Gran Fondo

On June 10th, cyclists of all abilities will take over the pavement as they pedal themselves in a race to the finish line.

The Gran Fondo Jasper is a cycling event meant to bring every adventure (and fitness) level to the roads of the real Rockies, with four different routes to choose from. The event is only the second Gran Fondo in North America to be held completely within a national park system, offering racers the opportunity to venture beyond in an awe-inspiring atmosphere.

The event offers 4 distances to suit all abilities:

For riders who want to push themselves over two amazing mountain climbs! The ForteFondo category is the full 190 km taking you over the Marmot Climb, as well as the climb up Edith Cavell Road! This event is for advanced riders.

For riders who want to experience a great challenge without the leg-burn of two mountain climbs. The GranFondo category is the full 165 km. This ride includes a great climb to Marmot!

For riders who want to challenge themselves at their own pace, the MedioFondo category is the full 100 km at a self-set pace for all abilities. This ride includes a great climb to Marmot!

For riders who want to challenge themselves at their own pace, enjoy the scenery and camaradarie of the GranFondo. The 65km route is for everyone!

Feel like channeling your inner Bauke Mollema, winner of the 2015 Tour of Alberta? The most challenging route, the Forte Fondo, will see racers covering a total of 190 km with an elevation gain of 2,339 metres as they travel down the Icefields Parkway before making their way up Marmot Basin road to the base of the ski area.

But you don’t have to win the Gran Fondo to have an epic and memorable experience! Riders, ranging from professional to recreational cyclists are encouraged to participate in this event simply for a sense of personal achievement, the scenic Rocky Mountain views and the camaraderie of fellow racers. Not ready to ride? Join the fun as an enthusiastic spectator on the sidelines – cheerleading is encouraged!

Registration for the event, capped at 400 participants, will close on Thursday, June 8th at 8 PM mountain time. Registration includes an official technical t-shirt, chip timing, full service stop, a custom water bottle, mechanical and medical support, and a finisher’s medal!

In addition, GranFondo Jasper will donate $10 from every entry to support the Jasper Community Team, a unique network of agencies, organizations and individuals collaborating to improve the quality of life in the community of Jasper.
